Average Jane Likes Jarritos

Jarritos

Last night was Burrito Night at our house, so I decided to treat myself to a couple bottles of Jarritos soda at the grocery store. I’d had the Piña flavor at a restaurant a couple of times, but I hadn’t tried Tamarind before. (As you can see from the photo, I also decided it had been too long since I bought beer. I limited myself to a 6-pack of Boulevard Wheat. The Fresca was for my husband.)

At 54-cents each, I wish I’d bought more different flavors of Jarritos to try. They make 10 different kinds, and I wouldn’t be surprised if my local grocery store stocks them all. Mango sounds really good, as does Mandarino.

I almost never drink carbonated beverages, but Jarritos are smoother and have more subtle flavors than most American soft drinks. They’re also made with real sugar instead of corn syrup, which I find to be a welcome change.

I drank the Tamarind one with dinner and it was quite tasty. I think I still prefer the pineapple, but it’s nice to branch out.

Halloween Update: I broke down and bought Halloween candy and put out our light-up plastic Jack o’lantern. Total number of trick-or-treaters: 3. Now there’s a big bowl of Junior Mints, Nestle Crunch bars and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups taunting me from beside the door. I should have stuck with my plan to shut off the lights and pretend I wasn’t home…

We didn’t get any last night, but then they would have had to walk up a 1/2 block driveway.

If you need any help getting rid of the Reese’s or Junior Mints, just let me know. 😉

It’s a bummer about the extra candy, but you made 3 kids very happy!

Crazy! I JUST had the Jarritos Tamarindo for the first time on Tuesday and was going to post about it. We have several tiendas in Olathe (even crazier, I KNOW – Hispanics? In the suburbs? Who knew? hee hee) and I cannot wait to try some of the other flavors. I also love that they use sugar, not HFCS. Yee haw. And you are right, the flavors are very subtle and the sweetness is not cloying.

    I’ll take the Reese’s…

We had a grand total of 3 T&Ters, too. And are now stuck with a bunch of candy. The Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups will get eaten, but I can’t begin to imagine why I bought so many mini Hershey bars. They taste like ass!

I’m going to have to try this beverage. Any store carry it?

I have not heard of ANYONE who got more than a few trick-or-treaters this year. What is with kids these days?
Thanks for the Jarritos recommendation — I don’t know where they sell it around here, but it’s got to be somewhere. I’m always interested to try unusual soda flavors.

From what I’ve heard/read it seems trick or treating numbers were down all-around this year. WTF, mate? I blame the fact that it was on a WEDNESDAY. Lame. There weren’t even any good scary movies on last night.

Perhaps there is a link between burrito night and the reluctance of trick or treaters to approach your door? I know that this would have been the case in my household, given how I react to burritos.

I don’t know…I think I got roughly 40 of the little beggars that night. Some of them didn’t even bother to wear a costume, though. I guess that was the trick.

Oops. In case I am misunderstood, I was being sarcastic about my “hispanics in the suburbs” comment. I know Jane realizes where I am coming from with that statement, but thought it could be taken wrong by others who do not know me.

    my husband loves the Fresca.
I always wondered what Tamarind Jarritos tasted like.
