Average Jane Is Ready for Holiday Entertaining

Remember back in April when I was trying to figure out what kind of wine opener to get? That problem was neatly solved when I got an email from Red Envelope after I stopped by their booth at the BlogHer conference. They offered to send me a free product from their Christmas Gifts selection and I choose the Hootch Owl™ corkscrew.

HootchowlIt arrived yesterday and it's a really nice, solid piece of barware. I selected it in part because I love a good pun as much as the next person, and it turns out to be based on a classic design from the 1930s—which makes sense considering that you don't hear the word "hooch" much these days.

This is the kind of device that you'd expect to provide a lifetime of use. I'm happy to have graduated from the cheap, breakable corkscrews to something that is likely to last into the 2030s and beyond.

I opened a bottle of pinot grigio to test it out and it easily removed the synthetic cork. It's big and sturdy enough to stand on the counter and I like that both wings can be used to remove bottle caps.

So here's where you come in. Red Envelope is providing a $50 merchandise credit to one lucky reader.

To enter, please like them on Facebook and leave me a comment saying which of their home bar gifts or personalized pub glasses you would choose for yourself or as a gift for someone else this year. (If you win, you can order whatever you like, so don't overthink it.) Deadline for entries: Sunday, November 20, 2011 at midnight Central standard time. Make sure you provide your email address so I can get in touch with you if you win. Winner will be selected by random drawing.

Good luck!

***GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED*** A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED!

What a fun idea! I have this thing for birds, especially raptors, and I have to say that bottle opener is a hoot.
If I were to choose something for myself, it would have to be the Picnic backpack. Although, I guess that wouldn’t qualify as a home bar gift, rather a portable bar gift…
The wine aerator looks pretty cool too.

I love the cubist appetizer tray!
Also, I am insanely curious about the pub game of Skittles and may have to research that (bonus: I noticed it had a similar set up for scoring like Cribbage, another pub game)

Hi! It’s Jennifer, @mintlipgloss from Twitter! I “like”‘d Red Envelope on FB this morning and I am having a heck of a time figuring out which of the bar items I like the best on the website! The Hootch-Owl wine opener is adorable, but I also really like the Wine Making Kit. The Steady Stick Table/Wine Holders are great too. I guess if I had to choose, I’d go with the Wine Making Kit. 🙂

I love Red Envelope. It is my go-to place for gifts when I don’t know what to get! I’ve actually been eyeing the owl wine opener for a while now, but with a new baby on the way the motherhood necklaces are really calling out to me as well!

Just flipped through my Red Envelope catalog last night. Love them! I’ve been ordering unique gifts from them for 10 years now and there’s always fun stuff. I loved the Hooch Owl and it’s good to know it’s sturdy. I may just order it (or gift it) even if I don’t win.
    (Already liked on FB.) 🙂

I would get some personalized pub glasses for my husband’s man cave.

My guests and I would have a great time with the beer tasting set. Looks classy.

I love the cubist martini set!

I would DEFINITELY get the beer tasting glass set– I love trying new beers and my boyfriend is always complaining about the fact that we only use pint glasses. (He’s a snob)

I would pick the personalized wine cellar sign. We are planning to give our bar area a “face lift” in the next few months, and as wine drinkers, that would be an amazing addition to the bar!

Joy Lady here….My mom loved owls. Did you see the owl cork stopper also??? Hope you pick me…although I can’t decide….their items are sooo cute! M:-)

Both my sis-in-laws were chi omegas, so their mascot was the beloved owl and they would adore that beautiful corkscrew!

I love the personalized pub glasses – Rizzo’s pub!? Love it! But I would also be seriously tempted to put it towards the picnic backpack.
