  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 11: Makes You Happy

    IMG_1928
Of course this was going to be a pet photo.

I spent most of today ferrying cats all over town for my rescue group. When I got home, I was greeted with the sight of Dr. Jones and Toby sharing the couch in their usual way. Of course, they'd both be a lot warmer if they'd just cuddle together, but they haven't reached that stage yet.

Two of my other sources of feline happiness never appear in the same room together and the third was off somewhere else in the house, so I had to take what I could get.

If you're wondering where my husband falls in all of this, he was either asleep or having band practice every time I was home. But yes, he definitely makes me happy as well.

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 10: Self Portrait

    Selfportrait
I actually had a photo shoot yesterday to get new headshots for my social media profiles, but because the implication of today's photo challenge is that you are to take a photo of yourself, I used Instagram to capture what I looked like today.

I almost never wear my glasses, but my left eye has been bugging me so I figured I could use a break from my contact lenses today. I also decided to take a break from smiling, despite the fact that smiling's my favorite.

If you want to see my new profile photos, feel free to look for my LinkedIn account, Pinterest, etc. They're out there!

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 9: Front Door

    IMG_1917
The front door of my house is incredibly boring, so instead here's the front door to my office. If I'd known the fingerprint scanner would be placed to the left of the door, I wouldn't have scanned my right hand. Fortunately it's only necessary to scan your finger for entry outside of business hours.

I don't know about everyone else participating in this photo challenge, but this topic made me think, "Shut the front door!" all day long.

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 8: Sun

We didn't have any sun today, so I decided to post a photo from a month or so ago of Trillian recharging her feline batteries in the sunlit window.

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 7: Button

    IMG_1913
I have a cool, faux black leather trench coat that I wear when the weather isn't too bad. It has a bazillion of these buttons: a long row up each cuff and lots of them in front. They fall off constantly.

Any time I'm wearing the coat, I have to attune my bat senses to the faint "clink" of a metal button hitting the floor. At any given time, I have at least one of these buttons in my purse and a couple more scattered between my office and home desks, all waiting to be sewn back on when I get out my mending kit.

It's still a rad coat, though. Especially if you don't know I got it at Hot Topic. Heh.

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 6: Dinner

    IMG_1911
When my husband ordered a slice of the "Delight" pizza, thick crust, the cashier paused a moment and asked if he had ever ordered it before. When the answer was no, he explained that it was about an inch thick with another inch of toppings. It sounded like a warning.

My husband went ahead and ordered it and it certainly was impressive, but nothing he couldn't handle.

10 a.m. on Sunday = time to take the little doggers for a walk.

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 4: A Stranger

This is an old photo, but I selected it because of the uncharacteristically warm weather we've been having this winter. I don't think we'll be seeing any snowmen this year.

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 3: Hands

    IMG_1893

For today, I went with an image of the most common thing I see hands doing these days. That's my husband, by the way.

  • Average Jane’s February Photo Challenge Day 2: Words

This evening I went to see my niece and nephew perform in their school talent show. Both of them did a great job. My 11-year-old niece did a dance routine to the song "Barbra Streisand" by Duck Sauce. I had heard of neither the song nor the band before she asked my husband to edit the song down to 2:25.

My 6-year-old (almost 7) nephew did a light saber routine of his own choreographing to a rocked-out version of the "Star Wars" theme, which was apparently such a huge hit when he performed it at the school earlier in the day that the girls were chasing him around the playground at recess. I'm glad to see that being a dead-serious "Star Wars" fan is not a social faux pas at his age.

The talent show organizers had two genius ideas:

    1. Limit each performance to two-and-a-half minutes.
    2. Have a DJ insert interstitial music for the changeovers.

So it was actually pretty entertaining throughout, although they needed disclaimers on the program for the old people, e.g. "School's Out" (not Alice Cooper) and "Shake It Up" (not The Cars). That would have saved us all some disappointment.

If you feel like joining in on the photo challenge, here's the list.
