My husband and I decided that last night would be our date night for the extended weekend. I have a lot of work to do between now and Monday evening, so it made sense to get the fun out of the way early.
Our plan was to eat dinner and see Spiderman 2. We had a good dinner at one of our nicer nearby restaurants, then headed 20 minutes down the highway to the Movie Barn (30 theaters!). The minute we pulled into the parking lot, we could see that we had made an enormous mistake. There were cars parked to the very fringes of the lot, with a steady stream of additional cars pouring in from every entrance.
On the way to dinner we had passed our local “dollar theater” (thanks to inflation, now $2 per movie, but who’s counting?) and noticed they were showing the sequel to Scooby Doo. Now, in the fine print of our contracts as long-time Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans, it stipulates my husband’s and my obligation to eventually see every movie featuring Sarah-Michelle Gellar. We figured, why not just take care of that right now?
For less than $10, we ended up seated in a tiny but relatively comfortable theater holding two large drinks and a large popcorn. The movie was…okay. The special effects were kind of cheesy and it was clearly made to be more kid-appealing than its predecessor, but it was more than entertaining enough to be worth $2 a head. You couldn’t fault the movie for casting: in addition to the actors from the previous movie, it featured Seth Green, Peter Boyle and Alicia Silverstone. Not too shabby.
Just for fun, I think I’ll blog every day this weekend. Tomorrow: scintillating prose about my day at my dad’s office. Try not to lose any sleep from the anticipation! Okay, that idea went by the wayside. Never mind!
