Average Jane and Her TiVo

Last night I got caught up on the shows that the TiVo recorded for me while I was gone.  Veronica Mars was good, but Rome was even better.  I know, I said I was giving up on "Rome" a long time ago.  I lied.

I actually had an episode and a half of "Rome" left to watch, so that was an extra treat.  I would never have imagined that Titus Pullo would live to the end.  I did appreciate that "Et tu, Brute," was implied rather than spoken.

What else is on my TiVo Season Pass list now that "Rome" is over?

  • Everybody Hates Chris
  • My Name is Earl
  • The Office
  • Two and a Half Men
  • Lost
  • Veronica Mars (on Saturday, since it’s on at the same time as "Lost" on Wednesday)

That’s really about it.  I’m looking forward to "Deadwood" coming back to HBO, but I’ll probably catch the next season on DVD rather than pay $11 a month for premium cable.

I think the DVD route is a great alternative these days.  I’m always hearing about good shows that I wouldn’t have time to watch during the regular season, even with the TiVo time delay.  What better way to spend a snowy weekend than to watch a whole series year in a row?

What shows do you recommend I put on my DVD list?

24 is outstanding. I promise you will be hooked. Well, I gave up on Rome after 5 episodes, but maybe I’ll catch the last few over the long weekend, but this is my weekend to pullout the Godfather DVDs again. I love Deadwood too, and Larry David, L Word, I know I’m forgetting something.

I’ve also done the DVD thing with TV series, and I’d recommend 24 as well, along with the British version of The Office (you have to watch the special!), and Sports Night.
My wife somehow managed to watch 3 concurrent seasons of Gilmore Girls (2 on DVD, one on live TV). It was amazing, and I have to admit I was drawn into the show as a result…

    Hi Jane. Re OBC’s prezzies.
Well, he’s not got his super hero pants on today, but he is going home this evening to roasted pheasant, a bottle of port someone bought him and the cheeses I bought him, so come 6:30 he’ll be oinking !

The 1st season of 24 is best viewed on DVD.
The Wire is also another goodie that is best on DVD – that show is better when you can see 2-3 episodes at once.
    Arrested Development….The Office….Coupling…..
May I suggest Firefly as well? hahahaha

I became hooked on “Firefly” watching the DVD, as it was cancelled years ago. I now own a set (my first ever TV series purchase)
My son has three of the four released seasons for Smallville on DVD, he now has my wife hooked. I’m resisting since I don’t have enough time as it is.
I just bought a Tivo last weekend and love love love love it. We haven’t set a wedding date, but we’re picking out china patterns.

I wanted to boycott Weeds because the studio Showtime doesn’t allow anybody outside of the US to view their website (WTF??) but it’s got some great one-liners in and the best soundtrack of the decade.
I don’t know when or where it’ll be showing in the US but I love the BBBC’s Shakespeare Retold series (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/shakespeare/) – Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. All four are set in and adapted for the modern day by excellent writers. A real treat!
Oh and if you like The Office (Brit version), Ricky Gervais’ new series Extras was excellent too.
