Average Jane Procrastinates

I’m starting to get very concerned that Tax Day is two weeks away and I still haven’t gotten off my lazy butt, collected my tax paperwork, and taken it to my accountant.  I wouldn’t be surprised if she charges me extra for my procrastination.  At this point I deserve it.

The worst part is that I’m fairly sure I’ll get a refund this year from both state and federal.  You’d think that would be enough incentive to get me to stop dragging my feet.

If the Procrastination-O-Rama stopped there, that would be one thing, but I have a whole list of stuff I should have done a long time ago that’s starting to stress me out:

  • Create wireframes for the new website for my community service organization
  • Finish writing lyrics for three of my band’s new songs
  • Take down the Christmas lights from the eaves of the house
  • Put up the last set of shelves in my garage

I have the whole day open tomorrow, and I plan to roll out of bed and hit the ground running.  No surfing, no TV watching, and no trips to Starbucks will be allowed until I’ve dropped off my tax paperwork, mapped out the website, taken down the lights and wreath, and finished up the garage chores.

I’ll put the three songs on continuous loop on my iPod Shuffle while I do everything else so it’ll be that much easier to get the lyric writing kicked into gear later in the day.

It’s supposed to be a nice day out tomorrow, so that’ll be extra incentive to run errands and be outside.  Wish me luck!

I think you should write a song titled “Procrastination Nation”.

Your opening sentence just moved me into action. I didn’t realize it was so close. Crap. I am not kidding. I hve been sending bits and pieces to my accountant friend without realizing it’s just around the corner. Thanks for the wakeup call.

Welcome to the procrastination club! I did get my taxes done, but I have a million other things I’ve been procrastinating on, like finishing unpacking all my nick-nacks when I’ve lived in my house 2 years now. Now that’s bad! 🙂

Taxes!??! Do we have to do those again this year? Seems like I just did them a year ago. …crap.
