Average Jane Can’t Sleep

If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know that I love to sleep. I like to get at least 8 hours a night and still take a nap for a couple of hours in the afternoon whenever I get the chance.

Unfortunately, my favorite activity has been rudely yanked from my grasp in the past couple of weeks, thanks to an uncharacteristic bout of insomnia. Otherwise, you can bet that I wouldn’t be up and writing this at a quarter to 6 in the morning.

Lately I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night and sleeping fitfully – if at all – until dawn. I wake up all stiff and tired, which is not a good way to start the day.

I don’t think that my recent birthday has anything to do with suddenly starting to sleep like an elderly person. I’m inclined to blame a new medication I’m on.

No matter what’s causing it, I hope it stops soon.  This promises to be an extremely busy week and I’m going to need all the rest I can get.

It must be something in the atmosphere. I’ve been having the same problem, along with really weird dreams.

My personal cure for insomnia: half a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread. Got me through two years of nursing babies and countless more of restless kids.
I find that my insomnia is often caused by erratic blood sugar and the combination of a protein and carb helps immensely. Just a thought from someone else who loves to sleep!

Deb – Thanks for the tip! I forgot that some carbs usually help. I’ll try that tonight.
