Average Jane Contemplates Walking

There are a lot of runners where I work and I can’t for the life of me understand their motivation. Running is the absolute last thing I ever want to do unless there’s a predator chasing me.

Walking, on the other hand, is something I can deal with. I love to go on walks for the fresh air, the exercise, and the opportunity to take photos of things that I usually zip by in my car.

Ignoring for the moment that I still have the sore ankle that started two months ago when I had the flu, I’m planning on doing a lot of walking this spring, beginning with the Monkey Mountain Nature Hike on April 26th.

My next walk opportunity is the March for Babies on May 4th. This one involves fundraising, so I’m going to boldly ask you to go to my profile page and donate some money. Think of the babies, people!

Last but not least, there’s another KC TourWalk on May 18th. This one scares me because it’s 13 miles, winding all through Kansas City and all the way into Prairie Village. You may remember the 7.8 mile walk I took back in November that damn near killed me. Yeah, same people but WAY longer. This one is going to depend heavily on whether I’ve managed to get in reasonable shape by then. I certainly can’t do it cold.

So now all I need to do is develop a reasonable training schedule and stick with it. Easier said than done, but worth it in the long run, I’m sure.

I just spit my coffee out. Predators? Too close to home, eh? hee hee
What really, REALLY cracked me up was this: one of my mom’s boyfriends was from Monkey Mountain. When my Leavenworth Grandma met him for the first time, she asked him where he was from and he answered “Monkey Mountain”. LVG thought he was being a smartass and HATED him there on out. hee hee

A friend of mine is also doing the March for Babies. I would totally donate to you, if, you know, I had an income.
But I too much prefer walking over running.

I was training to run a 5K in late April but I’m currently slathering Ben Gay on my knees and hips.
So yeah, I might be WALKING the 5K. This running thing is overrated.

I can’t do the April 26 hike, but I’m so doing the May 18 walk. I’m excited about that. I do love running, but I walk a lot, too. I’m sure your shape will be great by then! Come on, do it!

I’m glad you blogged this. I’ve been wanting to do one of Scoot’s walks for awhile now, so I signed up for this one. Thanks!

I enjoy running and walking. Running gets rid of my anxiety like nothing else. One of the reasons I love living in NYC so much is because walking is one of the best ways to get around. I love wandering around the city for fun. All your upcoming walks sound great, but I am very intrigued by the walk around KC. It sounds extra exciting, and I’m sure you’ll do great.
