Average Jane Plans for 2009

I'm usually a pretty live-in-the-moment kind of person, but there are a few things that I'm planning for 2009 that I thought I'd make a note of. They're in no particular order and of random significance.

  • Keep a record of all the books I read. I'm always impressed with bloggers' year-end lists of books because I never have any idea how many books I read, which were my favorites, or indeed which books I even read in the last 365 days by the time the year's out. I'm starting a spreadsheet, just for the heck of it.
  • Block off days on my calendar. For some reason, I tend to view an unscheduled day as a challenge and I will pack each day with a zillion activities. My pre-holiday vacation and the time I had off between Christmas and New Year's Day showed me that I need more time to be home, hang out with my husband, play with the cats and just do nothing sometimes.
  • Do more public speaking. I've done a decent job networking over the past several years and I am proud to know a lot of people in my field all over the country. The next logical step is to participate more actively in conferences and other social media industry events. My first step toward that goal will be later this month when I serve as a panelist for a Kansas City Social Media Club discussion about Twitter.
  • Learn to knit. Employees where I work get together each year to knit things and donate them to charity. There are people around to teach those who don't know how to knit (like me!) and the company provides the knitting needles and yarn. I'm looking forward to my first knitting lesson on Thursday. Let's hope I become a better knitter than I am a crocheter. The only things I can crochet are squares and rectangles (hot pad holders and scarves).
  • Get back to three yoga classes per week. I don't know how I let myself wander away from yoga, but there's no excuse for missing the two classes a week held at my office. I really have no excuse for not making it to one of the Saturday morning classes each week as well. I always feel much better, physically and mentally, when I'm taking yoga regularly.

That's the short list of plans that I refuse to refer to as "resolutions." Any similar plans of your own

    popped over from des’ blog.
i like your list. i also can only crochet squares & rectangles and want to actually learn to knit.
and i’m quite glad that the local library here has an option to store your book list on your account ’cause i’d totally forget what i read in the past year (or three)! i have read some non-library books, but i’m pretty addicted to the public library lately.

I love your idea about the book record & I am officially stealing it. I read so much that I forget them & then mumble something about Jackie Collins when someone asks me for a good book suggestion. I got problems.

Yoga is on my list too, I used to do it quite frequently but haven’t gone to any classes in about a year or so. I found a class in my neighborhood on a night that is good for me and am trying it out for the first time this week!

Ooo! Join GoodReads, please oh please. I would love to see what you are reading as you are reading it. 😉
